myFM: Burnout

Burnout is thrown around a lot these days but what does it actually mean? A loss of resilience and when you don’t feel like yourself. Handling stress is harder, finding joy and happiness feels further away from your reality than ever before. Sure there are hormonal issues to do with your stress response, adrenalin and cortisol, but there’s also theyour hormonal orchestra called the hypothalamic, pituitary, and adrenal axis, shortened to HPA Axis. Further to not feeling yourself, burnout can also be one of those multi symptoms situations that can look like in the brain category; depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, then in the digestive system irritable bowel syndrome, dysbiosis, then heart disease, cardiovascular issues, obesity, infertility, PCOS, infertility, low testosterone.

How did you get here? Have a look in the rear view mirror.

  1. After all that we have lived through in the past three years, the perceived stress, worry, and uncertainty that we have lived through and are coming out of now have really caused this situation to become far more widespread than ever before.
  2. Then there’s the physiological contributors to burnout can be from blood sugar inconsistencies - that up-down rollercoaster of your body trying to deal with your last high-carb, processed, sugary, or preservative-rich food.
  3. Dysregulated sleep over a period of time, and the big one that we’ve talked about a lot on EAT THIS with Lianne and in episodes 67 and 138 – inflammation. You could feel tired and wired, all at the same time.

Please know that you can take all the supplements you want, like Magnesium BisGlycinate, Liposome B complex, Vitamin C and HPA Axis specifically for this issue.  While it might seem like an easy fix to take supplements and yes there’s support there, but if you don’t deal with what got you here and change that, you’re only going to get so far.

Understanding your personality traits, if you’re an overthinker or someone who doesn’t stop (like me) then something has to change. Listen to episode 163 for how to do that with an interview with Naturopath Dr. Tara Campbell ND.
