myFM: Curb Your Halloween (Sugar) Hangover

You've got all that candy leftover that you didn’t hand out, but bought just in case.  I know, it’s calling your name. All. Day. Long.

I really can’t recommend it enough––just get rid of it. Unless you have willpower of steel and can just walk by the box or bowl. Even if you put it out of sight, you’ll know it’s there, as will your kids.

What’s the link between a rise in colds post Halloween? Sugar depresses the immune system for hours and just as your blood sugar starts to crash, and hit rock bottom after a few hours since your last handful of wee bars, your immune system starts to wake up. Only to be hit over the head again with the next sugar hit because of your next craving. The more sugar you eat, the more you want. Addiction to sugar has been compared to addiction to drugs, so it is a real thing. An intervention of sorts is needed. That's called BREAKFAST and PROTEIN.

Interrupt the cravings by not eating sugar (not so easy) and eating enough protein, especially at breakfast to get your blood sugar in balance. Try out the two recipes below and comment on how you're doing with the cravings after a couple of days.

Noteworthy about sugar: And all those sugary treats, it's not nice to think about but, yes there is a link to cancer. How can we avoid it and what’s the best way to deal with that constant craving. Studies show that sugar triggers cancer cell growth and helps them multiply quicker. Also taking care of cells that aren’t right, is down to the immune system, so if that’s not in tip top shape, then there’s problems.
