myFM: back to school sickness

Alright, get ready for the onslaught of the cold, flu and you know what. As kids head back to school, there’s going to be a bunch of bugs flying around that don’t all start with a C, but you’ve got to get that immunity in top gear to handle it all.

What can you do? Well, there’s plenty.

  1. Watch the amount of sugar intake. Sugar kills immunity in its tracks. That sweet treat in the lunchbox, don’t do it. Make my filling and fiber-rich treats from Sprout Right Family Food like Go Faster Granola bars and Rice Crisp Squares and make them school friendly with SunButter.
  2. Get them to sleep early. Start a calming routine; a bath, a story or reading on their own, no phones or laptops two hours before bed. Give Magnesium Bis-Glycinate in a drink or if they can swallow capsules and even Reishi mushroom tincture or powder as a tea for a better night sleep.
  3. Give the immune boosting supplements needed to help the immune system keep up. Vitamin C is crucial - my Alka C power is fun to drink, and has extra zinc and other minerals for immune support. Give Kid Boost, and probiotics daily as the antioxidants help inflammation, which is where mucus comes from, and probiotics are the sneaky way to support immunity. Bio Boost from is perfect for the whole family. Sunshine D3+K2 is essential for the resipriatory system, so don’t hold back on at least 1000iu or one spray a day for kids, more for adults.
  4. Get more colourful fruits and veggies into your kids when you can. Mealtimes in the morning and evening can be packed with colourful produce. Include broccoli for dinner, add mushrooms to eggs in the morning or soups for warming as the weather gets cooler. Add garlic to anything as it has antiviral and bacterial properties, and we all need that.

The cycle of sickness is no joke and needs something to slow it down. Support is the way to go, and rest. Don’t fight it, let it roll and give all of the above when it hits, so it ends quickly and doesn’t linger.
