myFM: Magnesium 101 - Forms and Which to Choose

Magnesium is a mineral is one of the top deficiencies (along with vitamin D3). it is used during stressstress, is the most powerful relaxation mineral available, and can helpimprove your sleep

Mag is involved in600 enzyme reactions and is found in all of your tissues — but mainly in your bones, muscles, and brain. You have to have it for your cells to make energy, for many different chemical pumps to work, to stabilize cell membranes, and to help muscles relax.

Forms to know about.

  • Oxide - about a 10% absorption rate for what is on the label. In most multivitamins and most likely useless.
  • Citrate - better absorption than oxide, but works as a laxative. Not used for muscles or the brain.milk of magnesia is liquidmagnesium citrate and can help to empty your bowels, but doesn’t give you the muscle, sleep, and brain benefits.
  • Malate- connective tissue.
  • Glycinate- takes a lot more of, it and doesn’t have as much magnesium as BisGlycinate.
  • BisGlycinate - 600 - 1000mg per day. With taurine, you get a better absorption. If not taurine, more BisGlycinate.
  • Magnesium Threonate - nervous system and brain.
